Level 1: Reef Snorkeler

The Reef Snorkelers class is a designed for children ages 5-17 who are new to the aquatic environment. No prior experience in swimming is necessary. This is where the essential survival skill are taught and independent water exploration is encouraged. Listed below are the skills that will be covered throughout the session.

  • Blow bubbles from mouth.

  • Bobbing with bubbles from nose, 10 times.

  • Recover from back float, 5 seconds in chest deep water.

  • Recover from a front float 5 seconds in chest deep water.

  • Roll from front to back.

  • Roll from back to front.

  • Front glide push off, 2 body lengths.

  • Back glide push off, 2 body lengths.

  • Flutter kick on front, 25 yards with kick board.

  • Flutter kick on back, 25 yards with kick board.

  • Demonstrate independent swimming with arm/shoulder rotation and ability to roll onto back 2 - 3x.

  • Open eyes underwater and retrieve submerged objects, 2 times (in shallow water)

  • Tread water in deep side with noodle 30 seconds .

Level 2: Boogie Boarder

The Boogie Boarders class is designed for children ages 5 - 17 who are comfortable in the water and can demonstrate the basic survival survival skills of swimming. Boogie Boarders will learn proper rotary breathing techniques needed to perform the front crawl stroke. In addition, they will be encouraged to swim independently the full length of the pool. Listed below are the skills that will be covered throughout the session.

  • Tuck float, 5 seconds.

  • Kicking on back with finning arms, 25 yards.

  • Flutter kick on side, 25 yards.

  • Front crawl with rotary breathing, 25 yards.

  • Backstroke, 25 yards.

  • Underwater swim, three body lengths.

  • Open eyes underwater and retrieve submerged objects 2 feet apart.

  • Sitting dive.

  • Tread water using arm and legs, 15 seconds.

Now that your child has the basics of swimming, great! Are they up for a fun challenge? The Swell Surfers class is an intermediate level that introduces Breaststroke and Butterfly kicks. In addition, the Front Crawl and Backstroke will continue to be improved upon. This class is designed for children ages 5 - 17 who have completed or can demonstrate the skills preceding Swell Surfers. Listed below are the skills that will be covered in this class.

  • Front crawl with rotary breathing, 50 yards.

  • Flutter kick on front and back in streamline position, 50 yards.

  • Backstroke, 50 yards.

  • Elementary Backstroke, 50 yards.

  • Breaststroke Kick, 50 yards.

  • Scissor Kick, 25 yards.

  • Dolphin kick, 25 yards.

  • Comfortable with water exploration in deep side.

  • Streamline push off and begin kicks for all 4 strokes, (2 body lengths).

  • Change from vertical to horizontal position on front and back (in deep water).

  • Headfirst entry from the side in a kneeling position (in deep water).

  • Tread water, 1 minute (in deep water).

Level 4A: Whitewater Surfer

Whitewater Surfers are definitely into swimming! If your child loves being in the water and doesn't want to leave the pool - COOL! They will fit right in! The Whitewater Surfers class will take your child's passion for swimming and give them the opportunity to build on all four competitive strokes. In this level the focus will be on stroke coordination and balance, which is key to effortless swimming. Whitewater Surfers is designed for swimmers ages 5 - 17 who are able to demonstrate skills preceding this level. Listed below are the skills that will be covered in Whitewater Surfers.

  • Open turns for all four strokes.

  • Refined Freestyle, 75 yards.

  • Refined Backstroke, 75 yards.

  • Refined Sidestroke, 50 yards.

  • Breaststroke, 50 yards – Demonstrate basic understanding of stroke.

  • Butterfly, 25 yards – Demonstrate basic understanding of stroke.

  • Standing dive compact position (in deep water).

  • Standing dive stride position (in deep water).

  • Controlled swim underwater, 15 yards.

  • Feet first surface dive, submerging completely (in deep water).

  • Tread water using 2 different kicks (scissor kick, breaststroke kick or rotary kick), 2 minutes.

As the journey of swimming continues, the Tidal Wave Surfers class brings direct attention to the more complicated aspects of Breaststroke and Butterfly. Swimmers will be encouraged to incorporate advanced techniques to their developing strokes and will be assisted in improving stroke efficacy. Tidal Wave Surfers is designed for children ages 5 - 17 that can demonstrate all skills preceding this level. Below is the list of skills that will be covered throughout the session.

  • Open turns for all four strokes.

  • Flip turns on front and back.

  • Refined Freestyle, 75 yards.

  • Refined Backstroke, 75 yards.

  • Butterfly, 25 yards – Focus on refined technique.

  • Standing dive compact position (off diving blocks).

  • Standing dive stride position (off diving blocks).

  • Controlled streamline swim underwater, 15 yards.

  • Feet first surface dive, submerging completely (in deep water).

  • Tread water using 2 different kicks (scissor kick, breaststroke kick or rotary kick), 2 minutes.

Fitness swimmers, come take your mark! Tsunami Surfers is designed for children ages 5 - 17 who are looking to stay in shape, join a swim team or hone in on stroke refinement and competitive skills. This course is a pre-swim team level and will help swimmers work on endurance and technique. Below are the skills that will be covered through out the session.

  • 100 Freestyle (Refined)

  • 100 Backstroke (Refined)

  • 100 Breaststroke (Refined)

  • 50 Butterfly (Refined)

  • 100 Sidestroke

  • 100 Elementary Backstroke

  • Demonstrate understanding of circle swimming

  • Demonstrate understanding of pace clocks

  • Demonstrate ability to use pull bouy, paddles, fins

  • Freestyle flip turns while swimming

  • Backstroke flip turns while swimming.

  • Open turns for all strokes (as well as IM open turns)

  • Breaststroke under water pullouts.

  • Dive from blocks in deep side and begin swimming.

  • Feet first surface dive and retrieve 10 lb brick in deep water.

  • Tread water, 3 minutes.
